Hello! My name is Michelle McRae, PhD, ELS.
I am a freelance science and medical editor, board-certified as an Editor in the Life Sciences.
I am a trained editor and a former laboratory-based research scientist. I copyedit academic, medical, and scientific documents, such as journal articles, grant applications (e.g., NIH, NSF), funding reports, book chapters, graduate student admission essays, and pharmaceutical advertising. I particularly enjoy editing work by multilingual authors.

I am familiar with the Chicago Manual of Style, 17th and 18th editions, the American Medical Association Manual of Style, 11th edition, and the Associated Press Stylebook. I can also follow in-house style guides and format documents to the submission requirements of journals.

I have a PhD from the University of Otago, New Zealand (cancer gene therapy), and postdoctoral research experience from the Centre for Brain Research, University of Auckland, New Zealand (gene therapy in neurodegenerative diseases). I have worked as a laboratory manager at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, UK, and the University of Cambridge, UK. I am board-certified as an Editor in the Life Sciences. I am now based in California, United States.
